Lower School Curriculum
The Lower School has as its foundation the Core
Knowledge program, a content-rich curriculum that is highly-sequential. With
a strong emphasis on cultural literacy, Core Knowledge provides solid, sequenced, specific, and shared knowledge for students
both in lower and middle schools. Coupled with traditional skills-based instruction,
Core Knowledge affords Marlboro Academy
students the academic background to progess successfully through high school and into higher education. Currently, Marlboro Academy
is implementing Core Knowledge in grades Pre-K through 8. Official status from
the Core Knowledge Foundation will be procured in the near future. For more information
about the Core Knowledge program, go to www.coreknowledge.org.
Middle and High School
Through eighth grade, the
Core Knowledge program continues to be the foundation of the curriculum. Upon
entrance into ninth grade, Marlboro Academy
students will have earned three Carnegie units as credits in English, mathematics, computer, and physical education towards
high school graduation. The high school has a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum,
with strong emphases on literary and composition skills, as well as computational and problem-solving skills in mathematics. High school students utilize problem solving and critical thinking skills, while
continuing to build a content base with greater depth and breadth.
Testing
Students in grades K-9 annually take
the Stanford 10 Achievement Test. Each year, students in grades 2, 5, and 7 take
the OLSAT. The PSAT is administered to grades 8-11 annually, to provide students
ample opportunity to become accustomed to national standardized college admittance testing.
Students normally begin to take the SAT and/or ACT at the end of their sophomore year.

College Placement
The college placement office helps students
identify colleges and universities that best match their needs and abilities and assists them though the college admissions
process. The counselor encourages students to pursue the strongest academic program
appropriated for them.
Although the "formal" college search
begins during the junior year, the process truly begins when a student enters Middle School at Marlboro Academy. In the eighth grade, students will earn three (3) credits towards graduation by taking Algebra I (1), English
I (1), Computer Science (.5), and Physical Education (.5).
Eighth, ninth, and tenth grade students
are encouraged to concentrate on establishing their academic record, to begin keeping a file of their accomplishments (academic
awards, athletic awards, community service, etc.) during high school, and to plan their summer activities to best enhance
their career aspirations.
Marlboro
Academy students take the PSAT in the eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh
grades. Also, they are encouraged to take the SAT at least twice during the eleventh
grade and once during the fall of their twelfth grade year.
